For the poppy seed cake, boil milk, salt lightly and pour over the poppy seeds, let cool. Separate eggs, beat egg whites until stiff.

Cream butter with sugar, vanilla sugar, lemon zest and the yolks. Add the poppy seed mixture. Mix the baking powder with the flour and fold into the poppy seed mixture alternately with the snow.

Pour the dough into a greased, floured cake pan and bake at 180 °C for approx. 50 minutes. Frost the cooled cake with chocolate icing.
